I am trying to use the Beryllium (beryllium-v1.7b-be3cbc2) mod with my server and set the "be_campDistance" cvar, but the time is way too short. According to the readme, the time limit is 20 seconds:

:: be_campDistance
If greater than zero, this is the the distance in units
the players have to move each second. If they do not, they
are considered camping and after 20 seconds killed.

Does anyone know how to increase that time limit before the warning appears, and the time between the warning and when you are killed?

Hmm... sorry i can't really help you, but if 20 seconds are not enough time to change your position, you may shouldn't play first person shooters ;)

Best regards,
Hectic

20 seconds is definitely long enough for most game types, except for CTL when you have the opposing team's lolly and are waiting at the oposite end of the map for team mates to get your team's lolly back.

If you are waiting and then all of a sudden backed in a corner by an opposing player you may not have time to battle and escape before the time runs out.

My main concern is for the CTL game type. There needs to be a little better balance so the person with the lolly can wait a little longer, but campers can't sit too long with the splasher and snipe. Having that time adjustable would be awesome.

Hi,

i think CTL is generally not a good place to use anti-camp etc. . Somebody must camp at the own Lolly to defend it, other players camp on hidden places to snipe the enemy lolly carrier and so on... Really, this doesn't help you, but if you set this warning time to a higher value, you have no longer a anti camp function. So it's may easier to disable anti camp in CTL?

Best regards,
Hectic

P.S. Please excuse my bad english!

My intent of only having the distance configurable was to make setup easier. If admins also have to use (or defaults - which I'd have to create, ideally working for the default g_speed of 280) a time until the warning, a time until the punishments; thing's get complicated. Not only for them, but it's also more work to code, especially since admins can then mess up things in even more ways (timeout -1 anyone?).

Thus with the current possibilities you'd just decrease the required moving distance.

Like Hectic said, CTL might not be the best suited gametype for anti-camp. It is more inteded for gametypes like LPS (or maybe tourney, for that matter), where camping is a real advantage. In CTL you don't score by standing still, but "defending one's base" is indeed a valid tactic.
In my opinion, the anti-camp feature is just a poor workaround for badly designed maps, where campers gain huge advantages. I known that campers can indeed be annoying, but like said above, it's basically a valid technique. Camping at player spawnpoints or powerup spawns is annoying, too. If it makes for an advantage, then the maps design is broken, if it does not, well it simply does not matter then (since the campers just waste their time) :)

On a side note; having different anti-camping times for whether someone has a certain item is rather confusing to the player. Plus if someone really wants to camp while having the lolly, he could still drop and pick it up again all the time (yes, there is a delay for doing this, but it is and it has to be lower than the anti-camp timeout for valid gameplay reasons).

I'm open to any discussion for this kind of feature requests, but I'll indeed discuss before adding anything :)
Another workaround on my todo-list is the ability for the server admin to add additional clipping to the map, to make some of the real mean camping spots unreachable. This is of course just a poor man's solution, but I can't magically "fix all the broken camper maps" via a mod.

P.S.: To answer your initial question; You can not change those time limits, as they are currently hardcoded into the mod.

Well, it depends on how much you want players to move. It also depends on your g_speed setting.

Maybe start with a setting of 400 and in- or decrease to your likings.

speed is set to 320

be_campDistance is set to 300 at the moment and it seems to be working well so far.

Thanks for the reply.
