Hi:

I'm trying to download WoP for Linux. I have the original, and the map packs, but the site lists four links which supposedly give me access to the latest version patch. One link doesn't work, one is in a language I can't read, and can't download the patch from anyway (assuming I clicked in the right spot), and the other two links get me a gigantic string of characters and script. Is it as simple as copying and pasting into an editor, saving, making it executable, and running it as a script? I don't mind doing that, but if that's not the right way, can someone fill me in? Thanks!

Kickchat and SNT Twente gives you direct access to the "wop_patch_1.2.run". This is the installer scrip which you need to download. My Firefox Browser tries to open the file and shows me the complete script. Instead of opening it in the browser try to download the run file by rightclicking on it and "target save as". After downloading start the run script via terminal.

Or download the unified zip which contains all content. Check http://padworld.myexp.de/forum/viewtopic.php?p=85376#p85376

yup, kai beat me to it. it would probably work with ctrl+a, and putting it in a text file, too, since that's what it is. (i'm guessing that's why firefox shows the text), but, yeah, right-clicking is how i'd do it.

Thanks for all the help, everybody! It works almost flawlessly. Only problem I seem to have is, when I run it in fullscreen (using widescreen resolution on a laptop) it will sometimes just kick out to a window, in a smaller resolution, and I can't do anything in it. None of the controls respond, and I can't even hit escape to get back to the main menu. I wind up having to alt+f4 to close it the hard way.

hmm, the window-switch usually happens by hitting ALT+Enter accidentally... ;Y)

Yeah, but it's not just toggling between fullscreen and a window. If I play in a window, the mouse "escapes" the window, and I can't move unless I move the cursor back into the window, but then I can only move until the cursor gets to the edge of the screen, then the mouse cursor reappears on the other side of the screen and my character is frozen again. w-a-s-d keys work sometimes, but...

If I'm playing in fullscreen, the same thing happens, except it first kicks me out to a window, then the same problems.

ok, this is normal behaviour as long the console is opened or the game is running in background (e.g. by hitting alt+tab or ctrl+esc), but the rest sounds a little strange to me. do you have multiple monitors connected? also, what OS/GFX/drivers(version) do you use?

Hmm... maybe it's because I have it in console. That must be it. I've been running it that way just to try it out, but I'll set it up more properly. Alt+tab probably will fix it too. Thanks!

Mouse should be released when opening the in-game console (with Shift+Esc).
You can toggle fullscreen with Alt+Enter. Or using the console and type "toggle in_nograb; toggle r_fullscreen".

that sounds like the compiz problem.
almost always happens when you have compiz on, and run fullscreen games.
hasn't happened to me in a long time, tho.
but, you can stop the error if you switch to metacity. (run "metacity --replace")

Thing is, I don't have compiz, or if I do, I'm not running it.

I'll try shift+esc next time it happens. Nothing else has worked thus far.

I'm having the same problem playing Urban Terror. Maybe I need to ask in their forums, too.

are you sure? urbanterror does the same thing, yeah.
still, try running "metacity --replace" and see if that helps, or if it does anything. on some distros compiz is default.

Yes, I'm running Crunchbang, which comes without Compiz by default.

I seem to have found a temporary fix. When it happens, I find I can do ~ twice to open and close the console, then the problem's solved. Still don't know why it does that in the first place, though. Could server lag cause it?
